The Covid-19 virus has most of us stuck at home, except for those considered essential workers. Some of us are nearing the 14-day mark, but, thanks to the many Stay-at-Home orders and the shutdowns of various businesses, finding something to do outside of the house can be quite difficult. Here are 10 things that I have done to keep myself sane:
1. Shower Every Day
This might sound like an obvious, but there are times when personal hygiene becomes less of a priority, especially if you're not going anywhere in the near future. Showering every day and keeping up with your personal hygiene will give you a sense of not only cleanliness but also purpose.
2. Journal
Again, you've probably heard this a million times, but, really, try it out. No, journaling doesn't necessarily have to be a documentation of your daily life. It could be that, but it could also be anything from a list to maybe even word vomit.
3. Try out a new recipe
Eating is fun, right? This is usually a hobby of mine that I've been slowly drifting from, but I've discovered so many delicious recipes in the past. Highly recommend. Here's one I tried out a few days ago. Pinterest has many great ideas, but if you feel like experimenting come up with one yourself!
4. Video chat with loved ones
This is something I used to do when I was back in high school, which is really ironic considering the people I video chatted with were the ones that I saw every single day while at school. This is the time to reach out the ones you care about and see the faces that you miss you much. Some platforms that you might consider are: FaceTime, Facebook, Zoom, Skype, Snapchat, is Oovoo still around?
5. Make 3D Origami
This one took me and my wife around four hours to make. Some might call it a waste of time, but I like to think of it as a great bonding experience.
6. Listen to podcasts
This is something I do a lot while commuting (you should check out some of my previous blog posts that prove that). There is so much quality content out there, and all you gotta do is search for it. Platforms where you could find some podcasts are: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube.
7. Read a book
I haven't done this in so long, mostly because I'm forced to do so much reading for school, but I will definitely get back into this. If you're already doing this, comment below what book you are currently reading.
8. Watch a movie
My wife and I used to do this a lot back when we were living two hours away. There are video chat platforms that allow you to share your screen. We used to watch on Skype. If you want to watch a movie by yourself then go right ahead! The last movie I watched was The Pianist.
9. Go through your e-mails
Yes, it's tedious. However, there can be some really interesting stuff in there. I've learned so much about the news and niche topics by going through all my e-mails.
10. Learn a dance
One thing that I had always been too embarrassed to try was twerking. I don't have the nicest booty, and I don't like drawing that much attention to myself while in public. So my wife and I followed this tutorial, and I think I got it! You'll still never see me doing it in public though.
